Member Spotlight: Anne Tursky

Aug 18, 2021 by

This month’s Member Spotlight features long time ADS member and supporter, Anne Tursky!  She has been a member of the board for the image0last year and has made a wonderful contribution to the sport of dressage.

Let’s get to know Anne!

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’ve been “horse crazy” since I was a little girl.  Since I had no access to the real thing, I would pretend that the family dog was a horse.  Fortunately Fred was all too happy to stand patiently while I picked out his hooves (aka paws) and saddle him with a dish towel.  My parents eventually gave in to my dreams and bought me a pony…and I have never looked back.

Tell us about your horse(s).

I have 3 horses that I have bred and trained.  Harry (Wildmark) is currently retired but he was my first homebred.  We learned dressage together which is not always ideal but we managed to get to 4th level.  Sophie (Sonnenschein ROA) is my pride and joy!  She is so sweet, smart and talented – I feel so lucky to have such a fabulous horse.  She helped me fulfill a lifelong dream to wear a shadbelly…and we earned our USDF Silver Medal at both of our debuts at PSG.  My third horse is Lily (Fleur de Lis ROA).  She is Sophie’s daughter and I adore her!  She’s not yet 2 years old but is already so personable.  It’s hard to be patient while she grows up…I think she’s going to be even more amazing than her mother.

image1What are some of your goals as a rider?

I’m always striving to improve my riding and training skills.  As is often the case, the more I learn, the more I realize how much more there is to learn!  I hope to continue to climb the levels with my homebred horse(s) and ultimately school/show at the Grand Prix level.  I am currently learning/teaching my mare to obtain the collection needed to perform the tempis and piaffe/passage.

How long have you been a member and why did you want to join the ADS board?

I’ve been an ADS member for almost 20 years.  I joined the ADS board last year so that I could give back to our local GMO since it has provided me with so many opportunities over the years.

What is your favorite horse book or movie?

There are too many to list.  I grew up reading all of Walter Farley’s Black Stallion books.  These days I still like to read Dick Francis’ mysteries.  And of course, I’ve watched the movie Secretariat 20 times!

What do you hope to see happen with ADS in the future? image2

I’m excited about the upcoming clinics that have been scheduled.  I think it’s wonderful that ADS is starting to sponsor more educational programs and hope that it can continue.
